Artistic Noise Board of Directors Job Posting

Job Description:

As we enter our 18th year at Artistic Noise we are seeking new board members to support our organization’s growth. From our roots as a small program fiscally sponsored by an umbrella non-profit at Boston College, we have grown to become an independent 501(c)(3) organization. We moved from the “incubator” to “startup” phase in 2010, and now are building out more robust infrastructure to ensure we can offer our programs to more youth in need.

Our mission is narrowly focused and we are experts at the work we do having refined our programmatic model over our 18 years. That said, we need our board to support the business of running a nonprofit, by

  1. Sharing their professional expertise and advice,

  2. Providing philanthropic support,

  3. Actively connecting Artistic Noise to the right people, resources, and partnerships.

We ask that board members make a commitment of 3 years to Artistic Noise and participate in quarterly board meetings and committee meetings as needed. Candidates should be located in the Greater Boston or NYC areas.

Desired Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in at least one of the standing committees (Governance, Finance,   Development, Strategic Planning)

  • Actively fundraise for the organization through your personal giving, networks, and more broadly.

  • Have 3+ years experience in either the nonprofit or corporate sectors.

  • Have experience/expertise in at least one of the following areas: finance, accounting, marketing, development, public relations, law.

  • Some prior board experience preferred, but not required.

  • This is a volunteer, unpaid position.

  • Believe in the mission of Artistic Noise.

About Artistic Noise:

Mission and Purpose

Artistic Noise exists to bring the freedom and power of artistic practice to young people who are incarcerated, on probation, or otherwise involved in the justice system.

Through visual arts and entrepreneurship programs in Massachusetts and New York, our youth artists give voice to their experiences, build community through collaborative projects, and learn valuable life and job skills. Artistic Noise creates safe spaces where court-involved youth can be seen, heard and supported on their path to adulthood. We believe the practice of making art offers opportunities for young people and communities to transform.

About our Programs

By working with youth both in state custody and back in the community, Artistic Noise provides continuity for young people who are often experiencing trauma and upheaval in their lives. Our staff of teaching artists and licensed art therapists works with our participants to create safe, challenging spaces for creative expression. Using a variety of artistic mediums, youth explore themes such as friendship, loss, sexual violence, community, freedom, identity and their dreams for the future. This structured artmaking fosters critical thinking and problem solving skills that are beneficial to the teens' healthy psychological development.
