Charcoal Drawing Project
Using soft-vine, compressed charcoal, black and white conte crayons and erasers, girls explored different styles of drawing. Working from life, (from an assortment of unusual objects), they were asked to: distort, enlarge, reduce, overlap, underlap, make silouettes, repeat shapes, create value contrast, crop, zoom in, zoom out, layer imagery, reverse/flip images, draw cartoonlike, and use expressive lines - as a way to develop a visually successful composition. This project allowed for skill and confidence-building through rigorous drawing and learning about composition, layering, rendering, and additive/subtractive drawing techniques. The girls critiqued the finished work and learned to appreciate and acknowledge each other's work.
